In honour of this year’s Anne Lister Festival, Shibden Hall and the Bronte Parsonage Museum are offering discounted entry if you visit both sites throughout the month of April! Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the homes of Anne Lister and the Brontes – inspirational women from West Yorkshire who made history by going against societal norms. Enjoy a trip to the Lister family home, Shibden Hall, a historic half-timbered building dating from circa 1420, before making your way over to the charming village of Haworth, and visiting the fascinating Bronte Parsonage Museum.
Getting to Haworth from Halifax (and vice versa) is easy! It’s a short train ride between Halifax and Hebden Bridge, and a scenic bus ride on the Bronte Bus between Hebden Bridge and Haworth. Don’t forget to soak up the bohemian vibes and independent shops in Hebden Bridge before hopping on the bus over the Bronte’s beloved moors to Haworth. The below itinerary provides step by step instructions for getting between Shibden Hall and the Bronte Parsonage Museum, and you can find more details here.
The Anne Lister Festival is back with over 70 exciting events for you to choose from, all to remember Halifax’s own Anne Lister on her 234th birthday! The Festival runs from Saturday 29th March – Sunday 6th April.
As we bring Anne’s story to life once more, you can walk in Anne’s footsteps, visiting her family home of Shibden Hall – by day, or by night. A large number of the original costumes from the TV series Gentleman Jack will be on display at Bankfield Museum – and this year you can also see some of the costumes from the series on display at Shibden Hall itself. There are walks, talks, craft and art workshops, pilgrimages and food tours, as well as two brand new events: a lesbian Community Film afternoon in Hebden Bridge Picture House, and an Anne Lister Community Regency Tea Dance in Todmorden. You can find the full programme of events here.
